Bart's Bash - Shearwater September 2015. 1st and Last.

Just a great chance to meet up with all my sailing friends at Shearwater and to hire the club Comet Duo for the morning.
We can all dream of becoming great sailors like Bart was, and more importantly, raise some money to help others.
My 1st race was a dream. I had it on a plate: perfect wind to get me sitting forward and out, a start 5 minutes before the rest of the fleet and a well known course which gave me just three tacks from the bottom to the top of the lake. I was sweating buckets and ha...

Jim Shekhdar (Good Book this) says we should live our dreams and, it being an easterly wind, I decided it was time for my personal Everest to begin. Bring it on Baby! 
 Well Guys, I did half a lap backwards: off the pontoon, round Buoy 4, down the lake with the wind behind me and round 1 at the bottom. Then it became interesting. It is possible to sail up wind backwards - I've seen it being done on Youtube - but a little tricky when there are gusts and windshifts which frequent on Shearwater. ...

Sailing Backwards - my new 'Personal Everest'

Hi Guys! 

27 visitors this week. I hope I haven't wasted your time.

We had a great weekend racing elderly boats designed by Jack Holt round Shearwater. I find that it is always fun to try and sail backwards towards the pontoon at the end of a race and I have just had a moment of inspiration: Could I be the first recorded person to sail a complete lap round Shearwater BACKWARDS?
Perhaps it's been done before? If so, I'm still on my quest for my next 'Personal Everest' (Geoff Holt - Sailing single...
